As a first responder, you’ve earned the right to a vacation, and in fact, you need the time to decompress. Travel can get expensive though, especially if you have a family.
Discounts and special offers can help lighten the expense. Here’s a look at companies offering exclusive travel and hotel discounts for police officers, fire fighters, and other first responders. In some cases, you may be able to combine these with civilian discounts for even bigger savings.

Other Ways First Responders Can Save on Travel
Just Ask
Not every business publishes their discounts and promotions. Plus with some chains, discounts can vary by region. If in doubt, it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Check Out ID.me
ID.me is a digital verification site that also maintains a list of partners that offer travel (and other) discounts to first responders. The service is free to members.
Check With Your Police or Firefighter Union
Fraternal Order of Police members, for example, can save up to 30% off Avis car rentals. And International Association of Fire Fighters members receive up to 25% off with many of the major car rental companies through Union Plus.
Look Into Civilian Discounts
If you plan to do a lot of travel, it makes sense to sign up for free airline and hotel reward programs. In some cases, you may be able to combine your first responder and civilian discounts. Here are some other simple ways to save on travel.
Link Your Starbucks and Delta Accounts
If you’re a coffee drinker who has both a Starbucks Rewards and Delta Airlines account, you can link them together to earn miles. You can earn one mile for every $1 you spend at participating Starbucks stores, plus receive double stars on Delta travel days.
Enjoy that well-deserved vacation.
