How to Get the Marriott Senior Discount
There are three ways to receive the Marriott senior discount rate.
- Ask for it when you call to make a reservation.
- At check in, ask if Marriott would honor the senior discount.
- If you book reservations on the Marriott Bonvoy site, be sure to select Senior Discount, which you can find under Special Rates.
Do you need to be an AARP member to receive the Marriott senior discount?
No. The discounts, are, however, subject to availability and can vary by property and location.
What is the age for the Marriott senior discount?
If you’re at least 62, you’re eligible to receive the exclusive Marriott senior discount. You may need to show proof of your age when you check in, so be sure to bring a driver’s license or some other form of valid identification.
Save More with a Free Marriott Bonvoy Rewards Card
In addition to the Marriott senior discount, you may want to consider signing up for a free Marriott Bonvoy membership. It’s available to all their guests; you don’t need to be a senior.
The Marriott membership program is based on the number of stays booked per year, with perks increasing in value with each tier. Here’s a look at some of the benefits you can receive when you join.
- With stays of up to nine nights per year, you’ll receive their member rates, the ability to earn points which can be used for free nights, and mobile check-in.
- At 10 nights, you can get priority late checkout and 10% more points on qualifying hotel purchases.
- At 25 nights, you can get a complimentary room upgrade, 25% more points on qualifying hotel purchases, and late checkout.
- At 50 nights, it’s 50% more points on qualifying hotel purchases, an enhanced room upgrade, and a gift (like free breakfast).
- At 75 nights, it’s 75% more points on qualifying hotel purchases, a room upgrade (including a possible suite), and welcome gift.
If you book directly with Marriott, you’ll get the best rate. So if you find a lower rate on a third party booking site, Marriott will honor that rate plus give you either 25% off the price of the room (or 20% for Design Hotels) or 5,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points.
Signing up for a Marriott Bonvoy rewards club membership is completely free and easy. If you plan to stay in hotels for more than a night or two, it’s worth it, IMO, to sign up for the Marriott rewards membership program.
Other Hotels With Senior Discounts
Marriott is just one of several hotel chains that offer senior discounts. When booking your stay, keep in mind that these hotels may change their policies at any time, and that senior hotel discounts can vary by location and are subject to availability.
Here are a few other hotels with senior discounts to consider. These hotels also offer rewards programs.
IHG Hotels & Resorts Senior Discount
IHG Hotels and Resorts owns brands like Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, and Kimpton hotels.
The Offer: A percentage off their Best Flex Rate, for guests 62+ with a IHG Reward Club membership.
Best Western Hotels Senior Hotel Discounts
Their properties include Best Western, BW Signature Collection, and BW Premier Collection.
The Offer: Up to 15% off room rate for guests 55+

Hilton Hotels Senior Rate
Properties include Hilton, Conrad, and Waldorf Astoria.

Choice Hotels Senior Rate
Properties include Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Quality Inn, Clarion, and Econolodge.
The Offer: Up to 10% off, for guests 60+

Although a 10% to 15% senior discount may not seem substantial, that’s money you can use to spend on eating out, shopping, or attractions. And by pairing the Marriott senior discount with a Marriott rewards card, you can earn other perks like free nights, free breakfasts, late checkouts, and room upgrades.
Ultimately, you’ll want to make sure the senior discount rate is lower than what you’d pay with an AAA or AARP membership or other discount. To be certain you’re truly getting the best price, calculate the taxes and any fees, then compare prices.
